Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about copper mining, processing, refining and recycling.
What happens after copper ore is mined?
The route depends on mineralogy. Many sulfide ores are crushed, ground and concentrated before smelting and refining; some copper-bearing materials use solution-based recovery routes.
Why is copper concentrated?
Concentration produces a smaller copper-rich stream, reducing the mass that needs downstream metallurgical processing.
Can copper be recycled?
Yes. Manufacturing scrap and end-of-life copper can return through appropriate recycling and refining routes.
Does this site teach mine or smelter operation?
No. Hazardous industrial topics are conceptual only.
